Thursday, November 17 was National Take a Hike Day , but there was a winter storm warning.
We celebrated it a few days later with a hike at the Outdoor Discovery Center, located at 4214 56th Street, south of Holland airport.
We met in the parking lot at 2:30 and walked about 3 miles on flat trails that are a mix of dirt, pavement, and boardwalk. Wepassed by sculptures, cultural history exhibits, and the raptor center. The landscape included woods, wetlands, fishing ponds, and more. Here’s a map of the trails.
Afterward, a few of us debriefed and rehydrated with the beverage of our choice at Guardian Brewing Company.
The American Hiking Society started the tradition of National Take a Hike Day in 1976.
