Plastic-Free Picnic Hike

Thursday, 7 August 2025 @ Rabbit River Preserve

Meet at 10:30 am in the parking lot at Rabbit River Nature Preserve on 4401 135th Avenue, east of Hamilton. We’ll hike about 2.5 miles on flat terrain.

Afterward, everyone is welcome to stay for a picnic, but please don’t bring any plastic containers, bottles, cups, wrapping, or utensils. You can carry your lunch in a canvas bag or an old-fashioned wooden picnic basket. Maybe bring a tin cup, stainless steel utensils, and a cloth napkin. Wrap sandwiches in paper or use bags made of compostable plant-based material. Pack munchies in a glass jar, and bring a beverage in stainless steel bottle.

This Amazon list has ideas for lots of items you can use instead of plastic.
