Armintrout-Milbocker hike

Tuesday, October 25, 2022

Five hardy souls took a fairly short hike in the rain. The two trails combined are 2.2 miles. The trails were clearly marked and there was no hard climbing,

The Armintrout-Milbocker Preserve is in Allegan, at the end of Thomas Street, east of M-40. Follow this link for the location in Google Maps or see the map at the bottom of this page.

The Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy (SWMLC) opened the 140-acre preserve to the public on October 16. The trails wind through pine and hardwood forests, including a red oak five feet in diameter. Plant life includes ten species that are either endangered or threatened in Michigan. There are scenic overlooks high above the river.

To fund this project, SWMLC received $1 million from the trustees administering a legal settlement with companies that polluted the Kalamazoo River. Another $100,000 came from the Consumers Energy Foundation.
