Muffin Day Hike

Mon., Feb. 20, 2023, 2:00 pm
@ the Crow’s Nest Trail

We will meet in the Mount Baldhead parking lot on Park Street in Saugatuck at 2:00 pm and walk to the Crow’s Nest Trail in Tallmadge Woods, next to the Ox-Bow School. Be prepared for cold temperatures and icy conditions – consider spikes/crampons and trekking poles.

It will be National Muffin Day, so (of course) we will have appropriate treats! On a serious note, this day is an opportunity to highlight the plight of the unhoused. Please consider supporting Allegan Homeless Solutions or another group that is working hard to address this issue.

Cancellation, if needed, will be posted on this page

The Crows Nest Trail is a quiet two-mile loop hike on public land in Tallmadge Woods. We’ll start by walking down to the end of Park Street, then we’ll turn left and go up a hill about thirty yards to the trailhead.

The trail starts on a low path that passes close to private buildings that are part of the Ox-Bow School. We’ll walk along wooded dunes that gradually climb up to the Crow’s Nest, where there is a breathtaking view of the Ox-Bow Lagoon and Lake Michigan. On the way back, depending on the ice, we may or may not follow a ridge high above the river. The trail gets steep at several points.
